National Right to Life honors Dr. Mildred Jefferson for Black History Month

National Right to Life is celebrating Black History Month by highlighting the life and legacy of Dr. Mildred Jefferson, the first Black woman to graduate from Harvard Medical School and a pioneering leader in the pro-life movement.

Jefferson also served as president of Massachusetts Citizens for Life, where she helped shape the organization’s mission to defend life in the womb across the state.

“Dr. Mildred Jefferson knew that medicine without moral truth becomes a weapon against the weak,” NRLC said. “She used her skill and voice to defend the smallest patient, the child in the womb.” Jefferson’s work at MCFL and nationally continues to inspire generations of physicians and activists committed to protecting life.
