Pro-life activist Paul Vaughn has reached a settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice after challenging his prosecution under the federal Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act during the Biden administration.
Vaughn, a father of 11, was convicted following a 2021 protest outside a Tennessee abortion facility and faced more than 10 years in prison before receiving a presidential pardon in 2025.
According to his attorneys at the Thomas More Society, federal agents conducted an armed raid at Vaughn’s home after charges were filed, arresting him in front of his wife and children. Vaughn later filed a lawsuit challenging the government’s handling of his case.
The settlement follows a similar agreement involving pro-life activist Mark Houck and comes after the Trump administration’s Justice Department issued new guidance limiting future FACE Act prosecutions to cases involving serious aggravating circumstances.
