Court victory for Oregon Right to Life in fight against abortion funding law

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has revived Oregon Right to Life’s lawsuit challenging the state’s 2017 Reproductive Health Equity Act, which requires most health insurance plans to cover abortion.

The appellate court reversed a lower court dismissal, sending the case back to the district court and recognizing Oregon Right to Life's First Amendment claim.

Oregon Right to Life argued that forcing a pro-life organization to provide abortion coverage violates religious liberty. Executive Director Lois Anderson called the ruling “a key victory” and expressed optimism as the case returns to the district court for further proceedings.
