The Assembly for Life on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017, was an afternoon of hope and a palpable sense of joy and expectation as one of our largest crowds ever gathered to celebrate life and renew our commitment to restore respect for life.

More than 500 people filled the Great Hall of Faneuil Hall in Boston, the “cradle of liberty”, to hear from a slate of speakers and to pray on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade. Faneuil Hall has heard speeches from the likes of great Americans like John Adams, on topics like the “Boston Massacre”. On Sunday, a tiny Iraq-born nun was the latest in a long line to speak for freedom and liberty for the most vulnerable.

Gosnell Movie, Nov. 10th, Free Exclusive Early Screening

gosnell.549a6adb72da45db884fdf81f6f199e1-1.jpg

The movie Gosnell is very effective and moving, and is based heavily on the report of the grand jury in Philadelphia. The documentary reports the case of Kermit Gosnell, the Philadelphia abortionist convicted in 2013 in the first degree murder of three infants and involuntary murder of a mother following an abortion. There may have bee hundreds of other murders of newborn infants, not to mention the thousands of abortion. His abortion facility was called a house of horrors for the unspeakable and disgusting conditions that investigators called the worst they’d ever seen.

The film really moves along and is very persuasive. It will not open in general release until 2017, but the filmmakers have made a special showing available for us on November 10, to which the public is invited for free. This will be a great motivator to keep going after the election. You'll want to mark your calendar and register right now!

The movie will be at Boston College's Devlin Hall with a meet and greet starting at 6pm and the movie at 7pm. To RSVP call 617-969-8383 or email info@plldf.org.

A Wet, but Very Moving, Mass. March for Life

2016MassMarchforLife.6c9372ca81d24ed0a9b8a657bc8955d1.jpg

By Anne Fox, President of Massachusetts Citizens for Life

It was a moving March! According to the news, it was 52 degrees with heavy rain on Sunday, but as the 2016 Mass. March for Life finished at the Bandstand on Boston Common, everyone was still together, still cheering and chanting. The spirit was amazing! There were definitely more Marchers than last year, when it also rained, which would make it close to 400 people. My barometer is always baby carriages and I am thrilled to say there were dozens and dozens, filled with adorable little people! (Which reminds me that Oliver, our 2016 March Baby, is even cuter than his picture.)

Voiceless Movie Gives a Voice

A new movie out on October 7 depicts the story of a recently discharged soldier who has found God and a new faith. He goes to work in a church reaching out to the community and discovers there’s an abortion facility across the street from the church. He tries to get people involved in closing it down, but meets resistance from all sides. Eventually he has to make a choice whether to put everything in his life on the line or walk away from the babies who are Voiceless.

There is not yet any group sponsoring a showing in Massachusetts, but if any of our members or supporters are interested in organizing to bring Voiceless to Massachusetts, the movie’s promoters provide a complete kit on their web site.

Dr. Mildred Jefferson: Profile

mildredjefferson.jpg

Dr. Mildred Jefferson was the first African-American woman to attend Harvard Medical School, and did so at age 20, which would have been a remarkable lifetime achievement if she’d done nothing further. But her true mark on our nation and our Commonwealth came in her work for Massachusetts Citizens for Life as one of our founders and as she traveled and spoke throughout the country, converting many thousands to the pro-life cause, including President Ronald Reagan.

You can learn more about this amazing woman’s life work in the following profile of Dr. Jefferson from the National Right to Life Committee.

9 Months That Made You

9monthstthatmadeyou.jpg

Starting tonight, PBS is offering a new series about the first 9 months of our lives and what happens from conception to birth. It’s called “9 Months That Made You” and was produced by the BBC.

While we can’t expect a public broadcasting program to be explicitly pro-life and anti-abortion, from a pro-life perspective anything that highlights to a national audience the reality of the humanity of the unborn child is welcome. We encourage you to watch with a critical eye and to be prepared to share with others the beauty of life and to offer an alternative to any parts of the show that may not entirely jibe with the reality of the personhood of the unborn.
