An Illinois man has been sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading guilty in a case involving the alleged administration of abortion pills to his pregnant girlfriend without her consent.
Emerson Evans, 32, was originally charged with multiple offenses, including intentional homicide of an unborn child and aggravated assault of a pregnant person. Prosecutors alleged he inserted four abortion pills into his girlfriend without her knowledge, resulting in a miscarriage.
Under a plea agreement with the McLean County State’s Attorney’s Office, Evans pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter of an unborn child. McLean County Judge Jason Chambers imposed a seven-year sentence, with credit for time served and a requirement that Evans serve at least half of the term. All other charges were dismissed.
