One of the constant refrains we hear from the pro-abortion side of the debates over life issues is that some people simply aren’t ready to raise children. Well, in recent days they have been seeking to provide us with examples of people unready for parenting and they have done it with uncharacteristic subtlety.
Yes, those are coat hangers on those signs and yes those are very young children holding them–one, according to reports, is a toddler.
This image comes from Texas where both sides of the Life Issues debate are heavily engaged in a struggle over whether to force abortion clinics to comply with basic health codes for ambulatory surgical centers.
These children’s mother not only allowed them to hold a sign, despite its rather grim and disgusting implications, she, if fact, made the signs for them and thought this was an excellent photo-op for her side of the argument.
Either that, or this is a very underhanded attempt to lend credibility to the parental unreadiness argument when they deploy it in the future.
In all seriousness, this image is illustrative of a mindset which, while certainly not shared by everyone on the wrong side of the abortion debate, is present and powerful. This picture and the scenario it documents can only be the product of an entirely closed mind–close to the point of being unreasonable–close to the point of being almost deranged.
It is the existence of opponents of this type should serve as a reminder that while the fight for hearts and minds is important we cannot give up on efforts to change the law, as they are trying to do in Texas. Some people’s support for death will only be silenced by legislative initiatives that settle to question, and save lives, once and for all.
